Altea Villas

Situated in the Alicante province just to the north of Benidorm is the town of Altea, an area on the Costa Blanca which is filled with seafront beaches and has glorious weather.  Many people escape to Altea villas throughout the year to take advantage of the Mediterranean climate which means summer is filled with hot sunny days and winter is mostly mild.  Exploring this part of Spain has never been easier than it is from the comfort of an Altea villa, as visitors can enjoy all of the sights and activities that they want in their own time.

Altea villa holidays

Like many other places that line the Mediterranean Sea, Altea has a number of attractive beaches that are ideal for relaxing on a warm summer’s day.  Playa de la Roda is the most popular beach in the area but it has still managed to avoid mass tourism.  Should you wish to enjoy the beach during an Altea villa holiday you will find 1.4km of stunning coastline that is situated next to blue sparkling waters.  The beach has received Blue Flag awards due to its cleanliness and facilities, which includes disabled access, a play area for children, toilets and showers, a bus station, parking and lifeguards.  If you rent an Altea villa close to Playa de la Roda, you can also explore the bars, cafés and restaurants along its pretty promenade that serve Spanish classics like paella, or wander further and explore the main shopping street of Avenida del Rey Jaime.

The beaches in the area of Altea are not just perfect for soaking up the sun, they also provide the base for many thrilling activities.  The clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea are ideal for enjoying numerous water sports.  During an Altea villa holiday you might like to visit one of the two water sports centres to indulge your adventurous side, where you will find activities such as windsurfing, fishing, water skiing, sailing, diving and boat cruises.  The two centres are named El Club Nautico de Altea and El Puerto Deportivo Luis Campomanes and are known for being high quality.  There is around 6km of coastline, which can be easily accessed from some Altea villas, with many beaches, such as Playa de Cap Blanch and Playa de Cap Negret.

Altea is one of the most enchanting towns to be found on the Costa Blanca and a best kept secret of the Alicante province.  Its medieval streets wind up and around hilltop towns and its old quarter is incredibly picturesque.  The old quarter is well worth a visit during an Altea villa holiday and as you stroll through the area the town’s most famous landmark will become visible - the church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo.  This church is beautiful and has magnificent blue and white domes which have been tiled with ceramics.  Those who walk up to the church can explore the plaza and witness the remarkable views of Altea bay which lies at the foot of the hill amongst beaches and the sea.  Many people who book Altea villas choose to explore this beautiful church.

Luxury Altea villas

Whilst the nightlife of the town is not quite as lively as nearby Benidorm, there is plenty to entertain you on an Altea villa holiday, especially during high season.  The area has an abundance of bars, cafés and great restaurants which stay open into the early hours during the summer.  There may be entertainment and live music in some bars and cafés, details of which can usually be found around the town on flyers and in local papers.  As well as the bars, cafés and restaurants, Altea has a number of fiestas that take place throughout the year.  Many occur in summer, when people are enjoying a stay at an Altea villa and the streets become extremely lively with lots of colour, processions, bands and parades.

There is never a shortage of things to explore in the town, from the beaches next to the sparkling Mediterranean Sea to the streets of the Old Town.  In the Old Town you can see why Altea has always been popular with artists and craftsmen as many of their stalls and shops are scattered amongst the area.  Altea villa holidays are perfect for exploring this town at your own pace and witnessing the incredible beauty of the medieval cobbled pathways.  Gift shops, homes and restaurants sit side-by-side amongst the streets which you can walk up to reach the top of the hill, where you will be greeted by impressive views of the Sierra Bernia mountain range.  Walking up the hills can be demanding but an Altea villa is perfect for recuperating after a day’s exploration or you can relax in one of the many restaurants and bars.
